Srinagar:
A rally led by MLA Gurez Nazir Ahmad Khan came under attack by a mob in the Gujran area of Tulail, located in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, leaving at least a dozen people injured, officials reported.
According to an official, the mob attacked the rally as it reached Gujran, injuring around twelve people and damaging several vehicles. The injured were transported to a nearby hospital, with three individuals later referred to a hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.
A police case has been registered, and investigations are underway, though no arrests have been made so far. Police intervened as clashes intensified, deploying smoke shells to disperse the crowd and restore order.
MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan has alleged that BJP supporters and relatives of BJP leader Faqeer Mohammad Khan, whom he defeated in the recent election, were responsible for the attack. In response, DDC Tulail Ajaz Ahmad Khan, son of BJP’s Faqeer Khan, claimed that individuals from Nazir Khan’s rally threw stones at the homes of BJP workers, provoking villagers to retaliate.
“The villagers resisted, resulting in clashes, injuries, and damage to several houses,” he added.
