Two individuals lost their lives when an apple-laden container truck overturned in the Pombai area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials reported.
According to an official, the AC container truck, bearing registration number JK03P-0505 and loaded with apples, overturned on a road in Pombai village. “The truck had four occupants. While two managed to jump to safety immediately after the accident, the other two were trapped beneath the vehicle,” the official said.
In the harsh winter conditions, police, SDRF teams, and local residents launched a large-scale rescue operation. After two hours of intense efforts, the trapped individuals were extricated in critical condition.
“Sadly, both succumbed to their injuries at the hospital,” the official confirmed.
The deceased have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Rather and Mukhtar Ahmad Itoo, both residents of Gopalpora, Kulgam.
Authorities have registered a case, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. (KNO)
