2 drug peddlers arrested in Srinagar with contraband substances: Police

The police continue their efforts to eliminate the menace of drugs from society, arresting two drug peddlers in Srinagar and recovering contraband substances from their possession.

A police team from Urdu Bazar Police Post, at a checkpoint at Budgeer Kawdara crossing, apprehended two individuals identified as Milad Bashir Bhat, son of the late Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Dolipora Kawdara, and Toyab Ahmad Sheikh, son of the late Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, a resident of Surnai Mohalla Kawdara.

Upon searching the suspects, the police recovered approximately 16 grams of a Charas-like substance and 210 grams of a Ganja-like substance.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 53/2024 in Police Station MR Gunj under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and an investigation into the matter is underway.

“The public is urged to report any instances of drug peddling or criminal activities they observe in their area. Information can be shared with the nearest police station or by calling 112. Addressing the issue of drug abuse is a collective responsibility, and we appeal to everyone to support law enforcement in this crucial mission to safeguard our society. The police remain committed to taking strict and lawful action against those involved in drug-related crimes. Together, we can build a safer, drug-free community,” police said.
