2 militants killed as army foils infiltration bid in Kupwara

Two militants were killed in the gunfight that erupted late last night in the Gugaldhar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara, the army said on Saturday morning.

On the intervening night of Oct 4 and 5, the army reported that it launched a joint operation after receiving intelligence inputs regarding “likely infiltration bids in Kupwara.”

“Based on intelligence inputs related to likely infiltration bids, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army & @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of October 4-5 at Gugaldhar, Kupwara,” the army said, adding alert troops spotted suspicious activity and were challenged, resulting in militants “opening indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire.”

This morning, the army confirmed that two militants had been killed, while the operation was ongoing.

According to army during the ongoing “Operation GUGALDHAR” war-like stores have been recovered. “A search of the area is underway, and the operation is in progress,” the army said.
