Srinagar:
Army shot dead two militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch on Thursday evening as they attempted to cross over from Pakistani said, police said.
A third militant managed to escape back.
The incident took place in the Khari Karmara sector of Poonch, where three militants were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory.
Security along the LoC has been heightened following intelligence reports warning of possible infiltration attempts. Simultaneously, armed forces have been conducting search operations in Doda and Kathua after reports suggested that militants might have entered these areas.
While militant activity in Poonch and Rajouri had declined last year, security forces continue counter-insurgency efforts to prevent potential threats. This operation comes just days after Jammu and Kashmir’s police chief, Nalin Prabhat, visited the strategically significant Basantgarh region.
Meanwhile, militant incidents have increased in districts such as Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, and Jammu, raising security concerns.
Separately, on January 30, a gunfight broke out between the Indian Army and militants along the LoC in Poonch after troops spotted suspicious movement. Army officials stated that soldiers opened fire upon detecting militant activity, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The operation is ongoing, with additional reinforcements deployed to prevent further infiltration attempts.
