Two militants were killed during an encounter with security forces in Kulgam on Tuesday.
A fresh exchange of fire occurred on Tuesday morning between militants and security personnel in Kulgam .
A senior police officer stated that firing recommenced on Tuesday morning following a cessation during the night in the Redwani area of Kulgam district.
The area had been cordoned off on Monday evening after specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the vicinity. However, additional security forces were deployed to the location late at night to prevent the militants involved in the encounter from fleeing.
He mentioned that all routes leading to the area have been sealed, and traffic as well as public movement has been restricted as a precautionary measure.
The identities of the militants were yet to be ascertained and their bodies awaited retrieval.
On May 1, security agencies expanded the scope of the search operation to Kathua district to trace two militant groups, following the killing of a village defence guard (VDG) in a brief encounter with militants on April 28.
The encounter occurred in the remote Panara village in Chochru Gala heights.
