Srinagar:

Police in Ramban district have arrested four individuals for orchestrating a staged truck accident.

According to a police statement, on September 14, Police Station Ramsoo received information that a truck (registration no. JK20C-3611) driven by Mohd Shabir, a resident of Tuli Reasi, had rolled into a 350-400 meter gorge near Panthyal on NH-44. Based on the report, a case (FIR-106/2024) was registered under section 281 BNS, and a police team led by SDPO Banihal and SHO Ramsoo visited the scene. However, they noticed signs of foul play.

SSP Ramban, sensing the gravity of the situation, formed a Special Police Team to investigate further. During questioning, the driver, Mohd Shabir, revealed that on September 12, he had been directed by the truck’s owner, Mohd Abdullah, to load 400 boxes of dry fruits from Gangyal for delivery in Srinagar. On the night of September 12/13, the consignment was transferred to another truck near the Ban Toll Plaza by Mohd Abdullah and two accomplices, leaving only 10-15 boxes in the original truck.

The staged accident was part of a criminal conspiracy by the truck owner, Mohd Abdullah, to cover up the missing dry fruit consignment. Mohd Shabir was instructed to stage an accident in the Panthyal area. He staged the accident of the truck, scattered the remaining boxes at the scene to make it appear as a genuine accident, and then fled.

The police arrested four individuals involved in the crime, including Mohd Shabir and Mohd Abdullah, and seized the dry fruit boxes and vehicles used in the operation. The other two arrested are Ayaz Ahmed and Ibrar Ali, both residents of Reasi district. The investigation is ongoing.
