Flash floods triggered by cloud burst in Hanzor area of Dachhan in Kishtwar district have led to death of 5 people while around 25 to 26 are feared missing in the area. Authorities also rescued 12 persons in an injured condition.
SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Bhat said that 6 houses and 1 ration depot was also damaged. “About 25-26 local persons are missing. So far five bodies have been recovered and 12 injured persons were rescued till now,” he said, adding that the rescue operation were still undergoing.
Meanwhile a mosque and a house suffered partial damage in flash floods in Aloosa area of Bandipora in north Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said. These structures suffered damage in Chichinar area of Aloosa, but there was no loss of life or injury reported in the incident triggered by incessant rains.
A police official said that flash floods swept away boundary wall and some material kept inside the house of Jamsheed Ahmad Chouhan. Besides, the official said, damage was caused to the local Masjid (mosque).
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Owais Ahmed also issued an appeal to people to avoid venturing near water bodies especially during these days of rainfall
“Revenue, Police and Flood control deptt on spot. Damage to two structures, no injury reported,” he said in a tweet, adding, “Situation under control and is being closely monitored. Requesting all to avoid venturing near water bodies esp during these days of rainfall.” (GNS)
