6 militants, 2 army men killed in twin gunfights in Kulgam

Another unidentified militant has been killed in an overnight gunfight, taking the toll to 2 in the Mudergham area of Kulgam district on Sunday.

A top police officer told GNS that one more militant body has been sighted in the Madergam area of Kulgam. Their identity is being ascertained.

So far, 6 militants and two army troopers have been killed in twin gunfights which erupted in the Mudergham and Chinnigam areas of Kulgam. The operation in both areas is still underway, the officer added.

An Army personnel was injured when militants attacked an army post in a village in the Rajouri district on Sunday, officials said.

The militants fired on a sentry post of the Territorial Army at village Galuthi in the Manjakote area around 4 am, prompting retaliation by troops, they said.

They said the soldier was injured in the exchange of fire that continued for nearly half an hour, but the militants managed to flee into the nearby forests.

A massive search operation was launched to track down the militants, which was ongoing when the report was last filed.
