Srinagar:

A man from Dhanore Jaralan village in Rajouri district was recently charged for breaching a directive from the district magistrate by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) application on his mobile phone, according to police sources.

Mazhar Iqbal (30) has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Darhal police station.

This action follows an order issued by Additional District Magistrate Rajeev Kumar Khajuria on April 24, mandating the immediate suspension of VPN services in the district to safeguard “sensitive information pertaining to the Lok Sabha elections and other vulnerable data from potential cyber threats.”

Mazhar was apprehended by law enforcement officers, who discovered a VPN application on his mobile device. Earlier, another individual was similarly charged by the Kandi police station for contravening the official directive.
