The News Craving

Srinagar:

Jammu & Kashmir’s Chief Electoral Officer has instructed district election officers (DEOs) to initiate the preparatory activities outlined in the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) election planner for the upcoming assembly polls in the Union Territory.

In a letter addressed to all 20 deputy commissioners, who also serve as district election officers, the CEO emphasized the importance of beginning the tasks as per the ECI’s election planner.

“As you are aware, the process of conducting elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir has been set in motion by the Election Commission of India with the issuance of the schedule for the summary revision of the electoral roll, as stated in its letter No: 23/2024-ERS(vol.III) dated 20-06-2024. Accordingly, I direct you to commence the activities detailed in the election planner communicated by the Election Commission of India via letter No: 464/INST/2022-EPS dated 27-12-2022, ensuring that pre-poll activities are conducted effectively and completed within the stipulated time frame for the successful conduct of the Legislative Assembly elections,” the letter from the CEO’s office reads.

The election planner serves as a comprehensive guide for the preparation of various plans and activities by the election authorities to facilitate the smooth conduct of the election.

On June 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that preparations for holding assembly polls in J&K had begun. “What can be better than the people of J&K electing their representatives and addressing their problems through them? That is why preparations for the assembly elections have started. The day is not far when you will elect a new government of J&K with your vote,” he said. (KNO)
