The News Craving

Srinagar:

Former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, has voiced concerns over the safety of Kashmiri students amidst escalating protests and turmoil in Bangladesh.

Mehbooba Mufti urgently called upon External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to intervene swiftly and ensure the well-being of thousands of Kashmiri students caught in the unrest.

In a social media post, she highlighted the suspension of internet services, which has caused the distress for parents back in Kashmir.

Emphasising the immediate need for action, the PDP leader stressed the importance of facilitating the safe return of these students.

Reports indicate that schools and colleges across Bangladesh have been disrupted due to the ongoing protests.

The unrest in Bangladesh, primarily fueled by student protests, has claimed the lives of 39 individuals, predominantly students.

The country remains on edge despite the deployment of the army, with clashes persisting between security forces and demonstrators. The government of Bangladesh has implemented a near-total internet shutdown as part of its stringent measures to quell the unrest.
