In what points to the trend of educational institutes fleecing parents, Akash coaching center has failed to return the hefty admission fee of a poor parent even as his child couldn’t attend the single class.
A Pakherpora resident, Fayaz Ahmad Wani, said he was forced to make several rounds to the institute’s office in Srinagar to claim a refund of Rs 25,000. Wani’s daughter was unable to attend NEET coaching in June due to ill health, prompting the request for a refund.
Despite multiple visits, the institute has agreed to refund only Rs 5,000, citing it as a security deposit.
An official at Akash Srinagar stated that the company’s policy allows only a partial refund of Rs 5,000 from the Rs 25,000 admission fee.
Wani, who struggles with financial difficulties, expressed his despair: “Disease and poverty are two curses that no parent should have to face at the same time. My daughter’s health is fragile, and now we are burdened by this financial injustice. How can a poor family like ours bear these additional costs?”
The incident has raised concerns about the transparency and fairness of refund policies at coaching centers, especially for families already grappling with challenging circumstances.
