Unnecessary speculations: PDP clarifies stance on post-election alliances

The News Craving

Srinagar:

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified its position amid speculations about its post-election strategy.

Iltija Mufti, Media Advisor to former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, took to Twitter today to set the record straight, stating that PDP’s senior leadership will make a decision on extending support to a secular front only after the election results are announced. “This is our official stand,” Mufti emphasized.

Iltija also launched a sharp attack on the move to nominate MLAs by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) in Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti criticized the LG administration for nominating five MLAs, all of whom are either members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or closely associated with the party.

In a scathing tweet, Iltija accused the government of “brazen pre-result rigging” and “shameful manipulation.” She further questioned the legitimacy of holding elections under such circumstances, remarking, “Might as well have nominated all 90 members instead. Why even hold elections?”

Earlier, senior PDP leader Nayeem Akhtar was quoted by a news agency as saying that the party is ready to support an alliance between the Congress and National Conference (NC) if needed. “We are ready to support the NC-Congress if required,” Akhtar stated. He also reiterated the party’s commitment to a secular front, noting, “Yes, we are ready to support any secular arrangement that includes Congress, as we are part of the INDIA alliance with them.”
