The News Craving

Srinagar:

Two policemen were discovered dead with bullet injuries inside a police van near the Kali Mata temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rehambal area of Udhampur district on Sunday. Officials suspect the incident to be a case of fratricide.

The deceased were traveling from Sopore in North Kashmir to the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) Talwara in Reasi district. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m.

Preliminary Investigation and Action
The bullet-riddled bodies were shifted to the district hospital for postmortem. According to an official statement, initial investigations suggest one of the policemen may have fired at the other before taking his own life.

Senior officers have reached the scene to oversee the investigation. A selection-grade constable who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident escaped unscathed and is currently being questioned by the authorities.

Massive Search Operation in Kathua
In another incident, security forces launched a large-scale search operation in the Kandi area near the International Border in Kathua district after reports of suspicious movement on Saturday night. Police, Army, and CRPF teams are conducting joint searches, supported by aerial surveillance.

Police said that three to four suspected individuals were reportedly seen in the area.
