Police across Kashmir have intensified their anti-drug campaign, carrying out sustained operations to curb narcotics trafficking and substance abuse under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.
In north Kashmir’s Hajin, Police Station Hajin conducted a major drive in high-footfall areas, including the bus stand and main market, where movement of people and vehicles remains high. During the operation, police teams carried out random vehicle checks to prevent transportation of illegal substances, with special focus on vehicles arriving from remote areas. A trained sniffer dog was also deployed to thoroughly inspect private and passenger vehicles.
In Handwara, police achieved another breakthrough by apprehending an alleged drug peddler during routine patrolling. A police team from Police Post Chogul intercepted a suspicious individual who tried to flee after spotting the police party. He was swiftly apprehended, and during a personal search, officers recovered a sizeable quantity of charas-like contraband. The accused was identified as Gh Hassan Khan, son of Gh Nabi Khan, a resident of Maidan Chogul. A case under FIR No. 79/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Handwara, and further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, in south Kashmir, Police District Awantipora has stepped up its campaign against drug abuse and illicit narcotics trade by conducting multiple raids across the district. Special focus has been placed on identified narco hotspots, including Kawni, Ladermud and Brawbadina, to dismantle drug networks and prevent further spread of narcotics.
Police teams, operating under the supervision of senior officers, have maintained strict vigilance and a zero-tolerance approach against those involved in drug-related activities. Authorities have also appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling or substance abuse, assuring that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
Police reiterated their commitment to protecting youth and society from the harmful effects of drugs and making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free.
