Police seize large quantities of liquor, contraband in Kashmir

Large quantities of liquor and contraband have been seized by police from different places in Kashmir.

According to police, three persons were arrested on recovery of contraband substance during a checking in Bijbehara.

Identifying the accused as Mehraj Ahmad Shiekh son of Mohammad Ismail Shiekh, resident of Dalgate Srinagar, Mohammad Altaf Baluki son of Abdul Rashid Baluki, resident of Rainawari Srinagar and Rayees Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Salam Lone, resident of Prochal Pulwama officials said twelve kilograms of Charas powder was recovered from the possession of trio.

On Monday Police in Baramulla arrested a bootlegger and recovered 20 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.

In Baramulla Khawajabagh arrested one Harjeet Singh son of Suraj Singh resident of Singhbagh Baramulla and recovered   20 bottles of illicit liquor from him.

Earlier in southern kashmir area of Pulwama, police arrested 2 drug peddlers and recovered 130Kgs of Poppy straw, 10Kgs of Bhang Patri and a grinding machine from their possession. They have been identified as Wasim Ahmad Ganaie son of Mohd Rajab Ganaie resident of Badriwan and Reyaz Ahmad Wani son of Gh Ahmad Wani resident of Bunagam Koiyal. Police said both the persons are notorious drug peddlers of the area.

In another incident, a drug peddler from Gudoora Pulwama identified as Ab Qayoom Mir son of Wali Mohd Mir resident of Gudoora was also arrested after during checking, 16Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from his possession. He has shifted to PS where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 317/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been set into motion.
