Newscraving Desk:
Srinagar, July 19
The Telecom major Jio has blocked access to the website The Newscraving on its mobile networks in parts of Kashmir on the directions of the government.
The company didn’t provide details of the order, but said in a written communication that the website remains blocked on the instructions of the government. Much of the websites content remains already blocked in a growing crackdown on the free speech in Kashmir.
Following the revocation of Article 370, the journalists have been routinely summoned to police stations on reports that appeared in various Indian and international media. Several journalists have been already arrested and there are also restrictions on the travel of media professionals outside India. The website will however remain available on nordot app with which we have an international tie up alongside some top media houses across the world including Reuters and AFP.
When the matter was taken up with Jio, its official Saurabh Mithbavkar said, ” In Jammu circle few key applications and websites have been blocked recently as per Government instructions till further notice. The website which you are using are part of the same list. Hence, you will not be able to access the same in Jio network.”
The website is nevertheless accessible on other mobile platforms, but with Jio mobile one of the largest service providers in Kashmir, the access to the content has been throttled for readers in Jammu and Kashmir.
