Srinagar:

A Delhi court has reserved its decision on the bail application of Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid, who is currently in custody on charges related to militant funding case and the court is expected to deliver its ruling on September 4.

Rashid, also known as Sheikh Abdul Rashid, is seeking regular bail. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh considered the case during a private hearing and has postponed the decision.

On August 20, the court had instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to submit its response to Rashid’s bail plea by August 28.

Rashid was granted a custody parole on July 5 to take his oath of office following his election win from Baramulla.

He has been detained in Tihar jail since 2019, following his arrest by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the 2017 militant funding case. His name came up during the investigation of Zahoor Watali, a Kashmiri businessman accused of financing militant groups and separatists in Kashmir.

The NIA has charged several individuals in this case, including Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. Malik received a life sentence in 2022 after pleading guilty.
