The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, through Home Department, has issued a formal notice under Sub-Sections (3) and (4) of Section 9 of the Manoeuvres, Field Firing, and Artillery Practice Act, 1938.
The notice highlights the government’s decision to designate the area of Village Garhi in Nowshera, District Rajouri, for periodic field firing exercises by the Indian Army. The specified area includes Khasra numbers 59, 82, 87 to 98, 98/1, 98/2, 99, and 244 to 249, along with Khasra Nos. 1883, 1884, and 1885. This decision, as per SO-373 dated July 26, 2024, comes into effect following the expiry of SRO-451 on December 18, 2025, and will remain valid for 10 years.
The government has announced its intent to authorize Field Firing in this area through an official notification after a period of two months from the publication of initial notice. The notice serves to inform the public of this upcoming authorization in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
The government has urged concerned parties to take note of this development. “The measure is aimed at ensuring that necessary military training and exercises are conducted.”
