Srinagar,

The security staff of the High Court in Srinagar was obstructing the people from entering the Court to pursue their cases.

Several litigants said that the staff was preventing them from entering the Court. They said that this was even as the HC recently ordered that the physical hearing of the cases would start, which had been stopped earlier due to the COVID restrictions. The Courts were carrying out virtual hearing of the cases in the wake of the steep rise in COVID positive cases in Kashmir. Noted human rights activist and chairman of International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, Mohammad Ahsan Untoo, said that the security staff deployed at the gate of the HC was preventing litigants from entering the court complex to meet the lawyers or to pursue their cases.

“ The higher authorities of the High Court should take cognizance of this and prevent the harassment of local people. It looks like a tactics from the security staff to extract bribe from people. Strict action needs to be initiated in the matter,” he said. Untoo also added that the people were prevented from entering the court complex even as the HC in a recent order lifted curbs on the virtual hearing. “ Already people in Kashmir are facing so many hardships, now the unauthorized restrictions are making people face an ordeal,” he added.
