A militant was killed while an Army major committed suicide in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir today.
According to police a newly recruited militant of Jaish-i-Muhammad outfit was killed in a gunfight today at Baragam area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday.
The militant of JeM was identified as Sameer Ahmad Tantray resident of Bargam Awantipora. He had joined militant ranks only on 2nd November of this year and was a C- category militant, news agency GNS quoted an official as saying.
Earlier a joint team of Police and army had launched a cordon and search operation in Baragam and as a joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.
Meanwhile police said on 11 December at about 10:30 pm an information was received through reliable source that one person namely Maj. Parvinder Singh S/O Rachpal Singh R/O Priyadarshini Vihar, New Delhi (currently company commander alpha coy Mahubal,) commited suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle AK 47 at his residential quarter at Mahu bal post of Alpha coy of 23RR. ” As the death of the deceased has occured under mysterious circumstances , inquest proceedings U/S 174 CrPC vide dd no. 21 has been initiated at this PP Khari,” it said.
