A late-night fire in Hyhama, a locality in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, left several families homeless after four residential houses and six other structures were destroyed, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

According to KNO, the fire ignited around midnight and swiftly engulfed at least ten buildings, including four houses, three cowsheds, and three shops.

“Firefighters worked for hours to bring the blaze under control. Five water tenders from the Payerpora, HQ Kupwara, Trehgam, Drugmulla, and Tekipora fire stations were deployed to combat the flames. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported,” officials stated.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and local police have initiated a formal inquiry.

In the aftermath, residents voiced their concerns about the significant damage and urged the government to provide immediate relief and compensation to the affected families.
