Srinagar:

Jammu and Kashmir Police have dismantled a significant inter-state drug trafficking network, arresting two key suspects from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

In a statement, the police spokesperson revealed that the investigation uncovered evidence, including bank transactions and communication records, leading to the identification of two major drug suppliers: Raju Gupta from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohammad Abrar from Bhajanpura, Delhi.

According to the statement, a Srinagar police team, supported by local law enforcement, conducted extensive operations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi over ten days. Raju Gupta was apprehended in Bareilly on January 23, while Mohammad Abrar was taken into custody in Bhajanpura on January 24. Both suspects were presented before respective courts, and transit remands were secured, placing them in police custody.

“Raju Gupta was apprehended on January 23 in Bareilly, and Mohammad Abrar was arrested on January 24 in Bhajanpura. Both suspects were presented before the respective courts, transit remands were obtained, and they are now in police custody,” a police statement said.

Additionally, a suspicious courier parcel linked to the accused has been traced to Loni, Ghaziabad. Authorities are working to retrieve the parcel with court approval. The financial dealings and properties of the accused are also under investigation for possible attachment under the NDPS Act.

This case originated in November last year during routine police checks at Tarbal Chowk, Srinagar. A motorcycle was intercepted, resulting in the arrest of three local drug peddlers: Aijaz Ahmad Ganie (Athwajan Pantha Chowk), Owais Ahmad Gojri (Brari Pora), and Mir Roman (Ali Masjid Eidgah). The police seized 140 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, ₹38,530 in suspected drug proceeds, three mobile phones, and a drone camera allegedly used to monitor drug buyers.

Further investigation into this incident revealed connections to drug dealers in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, ultimately leading to their arrests
