Criticizes BJP for election delay

Srinagar:

Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) Vice President, Omar Abdullah, has called for installation of smart meters at security camps across the region.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of workers convention at Handwara, Omar said that security forces’ camps and government offices are among the highest consumers of electricity.

Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Abdullah criticized the delay in conducting elections and expressed concern over the prolonged absence of elected representatives in the region, attributing it to the postponement of elections.

NC Vice President raised concerns over the government’s approach to the installation of smart meters, alleging that it unfairly penalizes low-income consumers.

Abdullah argued that the rollout disproportionately impacts economically disadvantaged consumers.
