Srinagar:
Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday called for the rationalization of reservation quotas based on population proportions, emphasizing that the current approach falls short of fairness. Speaking outside the chief minister’s residence, Ruhullah expressed dissatisfaction with the formation of a cabinet sub-committee on the matter, stressing that the satisfaction of students is his primary concern.
Addressing a gathering, Ruhullah stated, “There should be no discrimination in the reservation policy. It must align with the Supreme Court’s rulings or be based on proportional representation of the population.”
He reiterated his commitment to addressing students’ grievances, calling them genuine and promising to ensure justice. “I assured the students that I would stand with them, and today we are here to advocate for their cause. The government has responded by forming a cabinet sub-committee, but I am not satisfied. I will only be satisfied when the students themselves feel their concerns have been addressed,” he said.
Ruhullah also stressed the importance of maintaining order and unity. “I do not want chaos, nor am I here to divide my party. I will knock on every door to seek justice. However, if anyone attempts to create turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir, I will take to the streets to oppose them,” he warned.
He thanked PDP leaders, including MLA Pulwama Waheed Parra, Iltija Mufti, and the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), for their support during the protest.
