The News Craving
Srinagar:
The Traders Federation Pattan staged a protest on Tuesday against prolonged and frequent power cuts in the area, which they say have caused immense hardships for residents. The demonstration resulted in traffic disruption on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, inconveniencing commuters.
Nasir Bashir, president of the Traders Federation, expressed frustration, stating that despite Pattan being a metered area, the town receives only a few hours of electricity daily. “We have repeatedly raised this issue with the concerned authorities, but no action has been taken so far,” he said.
Another protester highlighted the severity of the situation, claiming that residents get merely 2-3 hours of power supply a day. “This is nothing short of harassment. The government must address this issue immediately,” he urged.
Tehsildar Haroon Rashid, who arrived at the protest site to calm the demonstrators, assured them that the matter would be taken up with higher authorities. He further promised that efforts would be made to ensure electricity is supplied as per the scheduled timings. — (KNO)
