Travel advisory Issued as Jammu-Srinagar Highway partially reopens

The News Craving

Srinagar:

In a bid to mitigate risks posed by ongoing road restoration efforts amidst challenging conditions, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, has overseen operations on the Nashri to Banihal stretch of NH 44. The area has been fraught with intermittent shooting stones and ongoing construction, prompting authorities to advise against travel and encourage adherence to traffic advisories.

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, a critical artery spanning 270 km, has been partially reopened for one-way traffic following a two-day closure due to landslides in Ramban district. Landslides and stone shootings at multiple points along the highway had severed vital connectivity to Kashmir.

Efforts to clear the route were hampered by persistent rainfall and snowfall, complicating the task of clearing operations at landslide-affected areas. However, with improved weather conditions, road clearance endeavors have intensified, leading to the partial reopening of the highway for one-way traffic in the afternoon.

This development has facilitated the removal of stranded vehicles between Nashri and Banihal. Ongoing efforts are directed towards fully restoring traffic flow in both directions by tonight, with a reassessment scheduled for tomorrow morning to determine the road’s condition and feasibility for allowing fresh traffic from both sides.
