Srinagar:
Vikar Rasool Wani, the former Jammu and Kashmir Congress president and current candidate from the Banihal constituency, has been sentenced to five months in prison along with five others.
The sentencing comes from a case related to the 2012 Assembly elections, where a public meeting was held without proper authorization at the Junior High School in Mithepur village of Gulavathi.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on each of the accused. The charges stemmed from a violation of the Model Code of Conduct when Wani addressed the gathering. The case was filed by then Block Development Officer Siyaram Varshney.
After being heard in the Special MP MLA Court, the charges were upheld, leading to the conviction.
