A truck driver was shot dead after allegedly failing to stop at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) set up by security forces in Baramulla, according to an official statement by the Army. In a tweet, Chinar Corps of Army stated that based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of militants, security forces established a MVCP. “One speeding suspicious civil truck was spotted. When challenged, the truck didn’t stop despite repeated warnings instead accelerated further while crossing the check post. Alert troops pursued the vehicle for over 23 km. Shots were fired aiming on tyres to deflate which forced vehicle to halt at Sangrama Chowk,” a statement said. The statement added that consequent to detailed search, the injured driver was immediately evacuated to GMC Baramulla by security forces where he was declared dead. “The fully loaded truck has been sent to nearest police station. Detailed search of the truck in police custody is underway and investigation on antecedents of the suspect is in progress,” the tweet said.

MLA Budhal Assembly constituency Choudhary Javed Iqbal today said that police have rounded up more than 60 people after 17 people died in Budhal area of Rajouri. He however ruled out any communal angle in the death and said that the spring which has been sealed today had permissible limits of pesticides. Earlier a minor girl hailing from Badhaal village of Rajouri district died on Sunday, taking the death toll to 17. 15-year-old Yasmeen daughter of Mohammad Aslam died in SGMS hospital in Jammu and was the eighth family member to die in Aslam's family and 17th in Budhaal area in 45 days. Yasmeen’s other five siblings have died earlier. Doctors say that deaths have occurred due to neurotoxins, but MHA-led inter-ministerial team is probing the exact causes of these deaths. Police have constituted an 11-member SIT to probe personal dispute as a likely reason.
