Former Minister, Abdul Rahman Veeri, and Sartaj Madni, uncle of ex-chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, have been booked by police for breaking COVID-19 protocol.

Police filed an FIR against Peoples Democratic Party’s ten leaders and activists for organizing rally on the death anniversary of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

On 7 January they marked the six death anniversary of Sayeeed, former Home Minister of India and ex-Chief Minister.

The FIR (4/2022) has been registered at police station Bijbhera under IPC sections of 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (unlawfully or negligently act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life).

The administration said that PDP organized a “large gathering” at the tomb of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Bijbhera “in complete violation of SOPs and covid-19 appropriate behaviour which result in spread of covid-19 and other related epidemic”, reported GNS.

The FIR has been filed against Abdul Rahman Bhat “@ Veeri”—former minister, Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, Najmun Saqib , Sartaj Madni (Mehbooba’s maternal uncle) , Majid Ahmad Khan , Abdul Majeed Rangraiz, Showkat Ahmad Teeli, Mufti Sarwar, Arshid Ahmad Ganie and Nazir Ahmad Vaid.

Reacting over the development, former Chief Minister said “Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP not to BJP.

“Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP. Not to BJP’s protest in Kashmir yesterday, PMs rally in Punjab or the mass poojas attended by hundreds of people to pray for his safety. Talks volumes about J&K admin’s brazen bias against my party,” Mehbooba said in a tweet.
