NIFT Srinagar celebrates its second convocation

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Srinagar celebrated its second Convocation at SKICC on 16th November, 2021. The ceremony was held for the class of 2021.

The event was attended by Darshana Vikram, Union Minister of State for Textile and Railways as a Chief Guest.

Jardosh felicitated nearly 28 graduating students of NIFT Srinagar with degrees, gold medals and awards.

On the occasion, the Minister announced that the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India will set up the Design Resource Centre (DRC) at NIFT Srinagar to create design-oriented excellence in the local handloom sector.

“All stakeholders of the handloom sector shall have the access to design repository from this DRC,” she said.

“From its permanent campus, NIFT Srinagar shall also launch continuing education programs which will provide working-class people with a refreshed knowledge of fashion and design and earn diploma certificates through evening classes,” she said.

While congratulating the graduating students the Minister asked them to explore textile, designing and communication as the career option. She said the NIFT Srinagar was bringing an excellent opportunity to students and youth for joining the ever-growing textile industry.

“I am pleased to share that we have kept 35 percent reservation in admissions in all programs of NIFT Srinagar for the applicants of J&K and Ladakh. You should avail this opportunity,” she said.

Director General NIFT, Shantmanu said the NIFT Srinagar has emerged as a successful campus in a short time due to the efforts and hard work of faculty, staff and students.

Shantmanu said that the new Campus would become a centre for art and craft.“We will facilitate students to be the best in the industry and for that we are planning different tie-ups,” he said.

Director NIFT Srinagar, Dr Javid Ahmad Wani presented the academic report for the year 2020-2021 and said the NIFT Srinagar was one of the emerging Campuses.

He informed the gathering that the permanent campus of NIFT Srinagar shall be made functional this year which will have world-class facilities for education and research.

“Through our international linkages with more than 20 institutions, NIFT provides a unique opportunity to pursue part of the education at foreign institutions which gives them a global perspective,” Dr Wani said.

He said some top companies including Wipro, Reliance, OrangeTag, Amaris, GoMechanic etc hired the NIFT Srinagar students. The highest package for the placements is Rs 10 Lakhs CTC by Wipro.

He also presented details of various consultancy projects being taken up by NIFT Srinagar for promotion and development of local crafts.

In this ceremony students from each department were awarded with certificates and gold medals for their innovation and creativity reflected in the graduation projects. Furthermore, awards of academic, artistic and athletic excellence were awarded for outstanding overall performances.

The function was also attended by Sh Jogiranjan Panigrihi, JS, Ministry of Textiles and Sh. P K Pole, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir as special Guests.

The event was also attended by many academicians, state functionaries as well as representatives and students of various schools.
