Rift emerges within PDP as Muzaffar Beigh skips party meetings

The News Craving

Srinagar:

Rift within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come to the forefront following former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh’s recent activities, signaling a potential split between him and the party leadership. Beigh’s vocal support for the Central Government’s decision to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari Ethnic Group, have stirred rift within the party .

Muzafar Baigh, was conspicuously absent from the parliamentary board meeting convened this week to discuss preparations for the upcoming election for the Central Kashmir parliamentary seat.

The meeting was attended by key party figures including Senior Vice President Abdul Rehman Veeri, General Secretary Dr. Mehboob Beg, and Adv. Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura, constituency incharges, and other members to contribute their perspectives and insights, PDP said.

Despite the PDP’s consistent stance against the BJP-led NDA government and the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, Beigh has emerged as a prominent advocate for the government’s initiatives, drawing attention to his divergence from the party line. His praise for both the Union Government and the Lieutenant Governor’s administration has raised eyebrows with the party.

Beigh, along with his wife Safina Baig, led a delegation of Pahari community members to meet with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, expressing gratitude for the government’s decision to extend ST status to their community.

However, PDP leader Dr Mehboob Baigh, said that ” Muzafar Baigh saheb is very much part of the party. There is no harm in meeting the Governor.”

Party sources however said that they were not sure whether Baigh was still part of the PDP.

Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Parliamentary Board Mohammad Sartaj Madni however said that PDP is planning meetings like the one held for the Central Kashmir seat for the electoral contests in North and South Kashmir constituencies.

Beigh’s return to the PDP earlier came even after his public praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
